Teams make over 230m/yr in TV revenue alone. Salary Cap $155m/yr. Chargers' payment to NFL: $65m/yr. Pretty tough to screw this up, but it IS the Spanos family and so maybe there's hope.
    Prediction:
    Correct: Chargers CI fails miserably.
Fail: Team stays in San Diego until their lease runs out in 2020. (without getting new deal done by then) .
Sig Bet WIN: The Chargers will file for relocation on January 15.

I remember reading somewhere they had operating costs of 59m/yr. That would make their outflow 279m/yr.

There's some questioning of whether the TV revenue will remain so high in the next set of network contracts, as the networks are supposedly losing money on those contracts now. But shouldn't the question be is LA revenue - $65 million > SD Revenue. Valuation will have to factor roughly $1 billion in added liabilities.

it's only smaller if you fail to consider South of the border- like Deano- to harvest fans. The NFL keeps playing games in Mexico City for a reason. TV viewership is way down and they are not going to get another set of fat TV contracts like they have now. International expansion is part of Goodell's promise to increase revenues. Maybe Carlos Slim will buy out Deano and move them back to SD. Rename them Cargadores and instant overflow crowds at home games with waiting lists for season tickets and skyboxes

The NFL could make the sale contingent on moving the team back to San Diego. That way, whoever ends up owning the team would actually want to be in SD.
